Understanding contrasting approaches to film production

Considering contrasting approaches to film production is a key factor in constructing strong responses in Section A of the FM2 exam paper. UK and US productions generally vary greatly in terms of budget, visual style and casting. The two examples below from BBC Films and Disney highlight these issues.

We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011)
Director Lynne Ramsay and actor Ezra Miller discuss their film adaptation of Lionel Shriver's best-selling novel, about a mother trying to come to terms with her son's murderous rampage through a high school. They tell Andrew Pulver how to cast a monster.

John Carter (2012)
The stars and director of John Carter tell Ben Child how shooting their mo-cap space adventure on stilts and in the heat of the desert helped to bring the surface of the red planet to life. John Carter - a sci-fi movie that sees a civil war veteran magically transported to the surface of Mars - is in UK cinemas now.
